Matthew Scarborough at MASt - Meetings on Aegean Studies
Matthew Scarborough will give the talk
"The Proto-Greek Labiovelars: An examination of an isogloss in the context of Ancient Greek dialect geography"
at MASt - Meetings on Aegean Studies.
Here is what MASt wrote about the seminar:
We are happy to announce that the Sping 2023 #MASt seminar speakers will be Dr Sc Helena Tomas (University of Zagreb) and Dr Matthew Scarborough (University of Copenhagen). Helena Tomas will present a multidisciplinary study of clay tablets with a focus on the differences between Linear A and Linear B tablets. Matthew Scarborough will explore the outcome of Proto-Greek labiovelars in the Arcadian and Aeolic dialectal groups and argue for a new relative chronology of their development. We look forward to knowing more about these exciting topics at the next #MASt Spring 2023 Seminar!
Helena Tomas is a Professor of Bronze Age Archaeology and Head of the Department of Archaeology at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Her main research interests concentrate on the transition between Linear A and Linear B scripts, the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean during the Bronze Age, Mycenaean epigraphy and administration, and the relationship between the Aegean, the Balkan Peninsula, and Central Europe during the Bronze Age.
Matthew Scarborough, PhD, is a philologist and historical linguist focused mainly on the early history of the Ancient Greek dialects and also maintaining broad interests in Classical Studies, Indo-European comparative linguistics, philology, and etymology. He currently acts as postdoc on the research project Connecting the Dots at the University of Copenhagen and research associate with the Department of Linguistic and Cultural Evolution at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology.
